Woven Thread Pendant Light | CLGH32658

The Woven Thread Pendant is a tall, round pendant of hundreds of fine fabric threads drawn taut between two polished stainless steel rings, lit by an LED hidden in the lower ring. It comes in four diameters, 37 cm (14.6″), 55 cm (21.7″), 83 cm (32.7″) and 124 cm (48.8″), and in heights from about 71 cm (28″) to 193 cm (76″). There are three colourways: red, green and cream. It hangs over a dining table, in a stairwell, or in a double-height space.

The weave

The threads run in parallel lines from ring to ring. From across the room they read as a solid shape; close up, the shape opens and you can see light and the room through it. The colour is in the threads, so red, green or cream fills the whole volume.

The frame

The two rings are polished stainless steel. A polycarbonate diffuser sits in the lower ring over the LED.

Why warm light matters

The LED washes light up along the threads, so the colour of the light becomes the colour of the piece. At 2700K cream glows soft and warm, red turns deep and rich, and green turns soft and calm. Cooler light makes the threads look thin and gray. On this piece, warm white is part of the design.

Sizing and placement

The 37 cm (14.6″) diameter suits a small table, a bedroom or a run of two or three over an island. The 55 cm (21.7″) diameter suits a table for four to six. The 83 cm (32.7″) and 124 cm (48.8″) diameters suit a large table, an entrance hall or a double-height room. The tallest versions, at about 190 cm (75″), are made for stairwells and voids, where they are seen from several floors. Groups of different heights work well in a double-height space. Over a table, hang the bottom 75 to 90 cm (30 to 35″) above the surface.

Suspension

The pendant hangs from the ceiling. The drop is made longer or shorter to order to suit the room.

The light

The LED in the lower ring washes light upward along the threads behind the diffuser, so the pendant glows as a soft gradient that changes as you move around it. It is an ambient light and a strong presence in the room rather than a task light. Over a table or island, keep task lighting alongside it.

Lamping and installation

Integrated LED, warm white at 2700K; there is no bulb to change. The pendant weighs about 6 to 16 kg (13.2 to 35.3 lb) depending on size. Have your electrician fix it to a joist or reinforced blocking rather than a standard ceiling box.

Care

Switch off first. Dust the threads gently with a soft dry brush or a hairdryer on a cool setting. Wipe the rings with a soft dry cloth. Keep water away from the threads.
