The Wooden Sphere Pendant is a turned wood log, 30 cm (11.8″) high, finished at its base with a smooth wooden sphere 10 cm (3.9″) across, hung on a slim cable. It comes in walnut or ash, as a single pendant or as a cluster of 3, 7, 10, 16 or 30 heads on one canopy. It hangs over a dining table, in a stairwell or double-height space, or beside a bed.

The wood

Each log and sphere is turned from solid wood and finished to show the grain, so no two are identical. Walnut is dark and warm; ash is pale and even with a clear grain. A cluster of logs at different heights reads as a warm vertical pattern of grain and light.

Sizing and placement

A single pendant suits a bedside, a reading chair or a small hallway. Three heads suit a small table or a kitchen island. Seven heads suit a round dining table of about 110 to 150 cm (43 to 59″). Ten and sixteen heads suit a larger table or an entrance hall. Thirty heads are made for a stairwell or a double-height space, where the cluster is seen from below and from the side. Over a table, hang the lowest sphere 75 to 90 cm (30 to 35″) above the surface.

Suspension

A single pendant hangs on a 30 cm (11.8″) cable and the clusters on 100 cm (39.4″) cables, all adjustable on site. Longer cables are made to order for high ceilings and stairwells.

The light

Each pendant sends its light straight down, softened by the wooden sphere, so it gives a comfortable, glare-free downlight. In a cluster, the light gathers into a warm pool below. Over a kitchen island, keep task lighting alongside it.

Lamping and installation

Each pendant has its own LED light source of about 400 to 500 lumens, warm white at 2700K. The fixture is hardwired; for the larger clusters, have your electrician fix the canopy to a joist or reinforced blocking.

Care

Switch off first. Dust the wood with a soft dry cloth, following the grain. Keep water, sprays and furniture polish off the wood.

Every piece is made to order. The cable lengths can be set to your ceiling height, and dimming is available on request.
