The Wood Linear Pendant is a long, slim bar of solid wood with the light built into its underside. It comes in walnut at 110 cm (43.3″), 120 cm (47.2″) or 220 cm (86.6″) long, and in ash at 120 cm (47.2″). It is made to hang over a kitchen island, a dining table or a long counter in a café or hotel.

The wood

The body is cut from walnut or ash and finished to show the grain. Walnut is dark and warm, with a brown that deepens under light. Ash is pale and even, with a clear, straight grain. Because it is real wood, the grain and tone vary slightly from one piece to the next. The 110 cm walnut version is finished with metal caps at each end; the others are wood from end to end.

Sizing and placement

The 110 cm (43.3″) version suits an island or table of about 160 to 200 cm (63 to 79″). The 120 cm (47.2″) version suits one of about 180 to 220 cm (71 to 87″). The 220 cm (86.6″) walnut runs the length of a long island, a refectory table or a counter of about 280 cm (110″) and above. Hang the underside 75 to 90 cm (30 to 35″) above the surface. The bar is slim, so it keeps sightlines open across the kitchen.

Suspension

The suspension length is set to your ceiling height when you order, and can be made longer or shorter to order.

The light

The LED sits along the underside and shines down, so the pendant lights the surface below evenly along its length. It is a working light for chopping, serving and reading at the table. In an open-plan room, pair it with softer ambient light elsewhere.

Lamping and installation

Integrated LED, so there are no bulbs to change. Standard light is warm white at 2700K; a cooler white is also offered. The pendant weighs about 5 to 12 kg (11 to 26 lb) depending on length. It is hardwired; have your electrician fix it to a joist or reinforced blocking.

Care

Switch off first. Dust with a soft dry cloth, following the grain. Keep water, sprays and furniture polish off the wood.

Made to order

Every piece is made to order. The suspension length, rod or chain and canopy can be set to your project. Dimming is available on request; the dimmable version comes with a single long canopy.
