The Round Washi Paper Lantern is a paper globe of handmade Japanese washi over a fine internal frame, made in seven diameters from 30 cm (11.8") to 100 cm (39.4"). It gives a calm, evenly diffused light with no bright spot from any angle, and suits dining rooms, bedrooms, entryways and living rooms in Japandi, minimalist, Scandinavian and wabi-sabi interiors.

The paper

Washi is a long-fibred Japanese paper, strong for its weight and slightly translucent. Each shade is made by hand, so texture and tone vary a little from piece to piece. Paper takes on the temperature of the lamp inside it: at 2700K the globe glows warm, while cooler light turns it flat and grey.

Choosing a size

30 and 40 cm (11.8 and 15.7"): beside a bed, in a small entryway, or two or three in a row over a kitchen island, spaced 70 to 80 cm (28 to 31") apart. 50 and 60 cm (19.7 and 23.6"): over a dining table of about 120 to 180 cm (47 to 71"), or as the main light in a bedroom. 70, 80 and 100 cm (27.5, 31.5 and 39.4"): a large living room, a double-height hall or a stairwell, where the 100 cm reads as a full moon of light. Over a table, hang the base 75 to 90 cm (30 to 35") above the surface.

Suspension

The standard cable is 150 cm (59"). Its length and colour can be changed to order; white cable is available up to 8 m (26 ft), subject to technical confirmation, for stairwells and double-height rooms.

Lamping and installation

One E27 lamp (E26 for North America), warm white LED at 2700K; choose a brighter lamp for the larger sizes. The bulb is included with the 30 cm size; on the larger sizes bulbs are not included. Hardwired to a ceiling box. It weighs about 1 to 3 kg (2.2 to 6.6 lb) depending on size.

Care

Dust with a soft, dry brush. For indoor use only, away from damp, steam and direct heat.
