The Veneto is a chandelier of hand-blown glass discs, hung in tiers from a solid brass frame on a brass chain. It comes in two diameters: 60 cm (23.6″) and 80 cm (31.5″), and stands about 63 cm (24.8″) high. It hangs from a 50 cm (19.7″) chain. It is made for a dining room, a double-height entrance hall or a lounge.

The glass

Each disc is blown by hand and gently concave, so it catches and bends the light. The discs are hung in overlapping tiers, and their colours move from warm champagne and smoke to aquamarine and amber. Because every disc is made by hand, its thickness, curve and tone vary slightly from the next.

The frame

The frame and chain are solid brass. The discs hang from the frame in rows.

Why warm light matters

Coloured glass takes on the temperature of the lamps behind it. At 2700K the champagne and amber discs glow gold and the aquamarine turns soft and deep. Cooler light makes the smoke discs look gray and the whole piece flat. On this piece, warm white is part of the design.

Sizing and placement

The 60 cm (23.6″) size suits a round or square table of about 120 to 160 cm (47 to 63″), or a room of around 3.5 × 4 m (12 × 13 ft). The 80 cm (31.5″) size suits a table of 160 cm (63″) and above, a large dining room, or an entrance hall where it is seen from below and from the side. Over a table, hang the bottom of the chandelier 75 to 90 cm (30 to 35″) above the surface.

Suspension

With the standard 50 cm (19.7″) chain, the chandelier hangs about 113 cm (44.5″) from the ceiling. Over a dining table that suits ceilings of roughly 2.6 to 2.8 m (8.5 to 9 ft). For higher ceilings and double-height spaces, the chain is made longer to order, or shorter for a lower room.

The light

The light passes through the discs and reflects between them, so the Veneto gives a soft, coloured ambient light with small refractions on the ceiling and walls. It is not a direct downlight. Over a kitchen island or a desk, keep task lighting alongside it.

Lamping and installation

E12 or E14 candelabra lamps, depending on the destination country, up to 40 W each; LED lamps can be used. Warm white at 2700K. The chandelier weighs about 22 kg (48.5 lb). Have your electrician fix it to a joist or reinforced blocking rather than a standard ceiling box.

Care

Switch off and let the lamps cool first. Dust the glass with a soft dry cloth or a feather duster, supporting each disc with your other hand. For a deeper clean, wipe the glass with a damp microfiber cloth. Clean the brass with a soft dry cloth only; do not use metal polish.

Made to order

Every Veneto is made to order. The scale, the glass colours and the metal finish can be changed, and the chain length is set to your ceiling. Dimming is available on request.
