The Serenity Ceiling Lamp is a bentwood pendant of curved wooden slats around a frosted glass globe, in walnut or ash. It measures 48 cm (18.9″) wide and 80 cm (31.5″) high, and hangs on a 60 cm (23.6″) adjustable cable. It suits a kitchen island, a dining table or a quiet living room.

The wood

The slats are bentwood, curved into an open, airy shape and hand-finished in walnut or ash veneer. Walnut gives a deep brown tone; ash is pale and light. Because the slats are open, the light filters between them and casts gentle patterns on the ceiling and walls. Iron fittings hold the slats and the globe.

Why warm light matters

Wood and frosted glass both take on the colour of the light. At 2700K the globe glows soft and warm and the veneer reads rich and natural; cooler light makes the wood look grey and the glass harsh. On this piece, warm white is part of the design.

Sizing and placement

At 48 cm (18.9″) wide, one pendant suits a round table of about 80 to 110 cm (31 to 43″) or a corner of a living room. Over a longer dining table or a kitchen island, hang two or three in a row. Over a table, hang the bottom 75 to 90 cm (30 to 35″) above the surface. At 80 cm (31.5″) tall it has a vertical shape that looks best where there is ceiling height to hold it.

Suspension

The pendant hangs on a 60 cm (23.6″) cable that is adjusted at installation. At full length the overall drop is about 140 cm (55″), which over a dining table suits ceilings of about 2.9 to 3 m (9.5 to 10 ft); shortened, it works under lower ceilings. The cable is made longer or shorter to order.

The light

A single lamp sits inside the frosted globe, so the light is diffused before it passes between the slats. It gives a soft ambient glow with gentle patterns on the surrounding surfaces rather than a direct downlight. Over a kitchen island, keep task lighting alongside it.

Lamping and installation

One G9 lamp. Warm white LED at 2700K. The bulb is not included. The pendant weighs about 4 to 6 kg (8.8 to 13.2 lb). It is hardwired.

Care

Switch off and let the lamp cool. Dust the slats with a soft dry cloth or a feather duster, and keep water and sprays off the wood. Wipe the frosted globe with a soft, slightly damp cloth.

Made to order

Every pendant is made to order in walnut or ash. The cable length can be set to your ceiling height, and dimming is available on request.
