The Sculptural Gold Tiered Pendant is three graduated, hand-spun shades of solid brass stacked into one wide form, with a satin-brushed finish. It is 78.7 cm (31″) wide and 44.5 cm (17.5″) high and hangs on a 50 cm (19.7″) solid brass chain. It suits a large dining room, a living room or a high-ceilinged entrance hall.

The brass

Each shade is spun by hand from heavy-gauge solid brass and brushed to a soft satin finish. The three tiers step down in size, so each one catches light from the one above and the piece reads as a single sculptural volume. The chain and canopy are solid brass to match.

Why warm light matters

Brass takes on the colour of the light it reflects. At 2700K the inside of the tiers glows a warm gold; cooler light turns the metal flat and greenish. On this piece, warm white is part of the design.

Sizing and placement

At 78.7 cm (31″) wide, the pendant suits a round or square table of about 150 to 200 cm (59 to 79″), a larger living room, or an entrance hall with a high ceiling. Over a table, hang the bottom of the pendant 75 to 90 cm (30 to 35″) above the surface.

Suspension

With the standard 50 cm (19.7″) chain, the pendant hangs about 95 cm (37″) from the ceiling. Over a dining table that suits ceilings of roughly 2.6 to 2.8 m (8.5 to 9 ft). For higher ceilings and entrance halls the chain is made longer, and it can be made shorter to order.

The light

The shades act as reflectors: light passes between the tiers and bounces off the brushed brass, so the pendant gives a warm, all-round ambient light rather than a narrow downlight. Over a kitchen island or a desk, keep task lighting alongside it.

Lamping and installation

Warm white at 2700K. The pendant weighs about 14.5 kg (32 lb). The fixture is hardwired; have your electrician fix it to a joist or reinforced blocking.

Care

Switch off and let the lamps cool first. Dust with a soft dry cloth, following the direction of the brushing. Do not use metal polish or abrasive cleaners: they strip the satin finish and can mark the brass.
