Rattan Pendant | Hand-Knitted | CLP8502

The Rattan Pendant is a shade of hand-knitted rattan trimmed with soft frills of organic cotton, on a metal fitting. It comes in four sizes: 30 cm (11.8″) wide and 37 cm (14.6″) high, and 40 cm (15.7″), 50 cm (19.7″) or 60 cm (23.6″) wide, each 27 cm (10.6″) high. Each size is made as a hanging pendant or as a semi-flush mount, and the 60 cm is also made in pink as a semi-flush mount. It suits a living room, a bedroom or a dining area.

The weave

The rattan is knitted by hand into an open pattern, then finished with cotton frills that soften the edge of the shade. Because every shade is woven by hand, the weave varies slightly from one to the next. The natural cane tone sits well with linen, oak, terracotta and plaster walls in a coastal, boho or rustic room.

Why warm light matters

An open weave throws the colour of the lamp onto the walls and ceiling as patterned shadow. At 2700K the rattan glows honey-gold and the shadows are soft and warm; cooler light makes the cane look gray and dry. On this piece, warm white is part of the design.

Sizing and placement

The 30 cm (11.8″) suits a bedside, a small hallway or a pair over a kitchen island. The 40 cm (15.7″) suits a small round table of about 90 to 110 cm (35 to 43″) or a bedroom. The 50 cm (19.7″) suits a table of about 110 to 140 cm (43 to 55″). The 60 cm (23.6″) suits a larger table or the middle of a living room. Over a table, hang the bottom 75 to 90 cm (30 to 35″) above the surface. For ceilings under about 2.5 m (8.2 ft), choose the semi-flush mount.

Suspension

The pendant hangs on a 120 cm (47.2″) cord that adjusts on site. The semi-flush version sits close to the ceiling on a 5 cm (2″) canopy. The cord can be made longer or shorter to order.

The light

The lamp sits inside the shade. Light passes through the open weave as dappled shadow on the ceiling and walls, and falls down through the base onto the space below. It is an ambient light. Over a kitchen island or desk, keep task lighting alongside it.

Lamping and installation

One E27 lamp. Warm white LED at 2700K. Bulbs are not included. It is hardwired by your electrician.

Care

Switch off and let the lamp cool. Dust the rattan and frills with a soft brush or a vacuum on low with a brush attachment. Keep the shade dry.

Made to order

Every piece is made to order. The cord length can be set to your ceiling height, and dimming is available on request.
