The Olive Crystal Chandelier is a shallow, round chandelier of layered olive glass tiles over a frosted glass diffuser, with brass details and a vintage-style chain. It comes in two diameters: 65 cm (25.6″) and 80 cm (31.5″). The 65 cm version is 16 cm (6.3″) high. It hangs on a 50 cm (19.7″) chain and suits a dining room or an entrance hall.

The glass

The olive glass tiles are layered over a frosted glass diffuser. The olive is a deep, muted green that sits easily beside brass, walnut, oak, leather and warm neutral walls. The brass details frame the glass and pick up the light, and together they give the piece a slightly retro, collected character.

Why warm light matters

Coloured glass takes on the temperature of the lamps behind it. At 2700K the olive glass glows a warm, deep green and the frosted diffuser turns soft and even; cooler light makes the green look grey and flat. On this piece, warm white is part of the design.

Sizing and placement

The 65 cm (25.6″) suits a round or square table of about 110 to 150 cm (43 to 59″), or a room of around 3.5 × 4 m (12 × 13 ft). The 80 cm (31.5″) suits a table of 150 cm (59″) and above, a larger living room or an entrance hall. Over a table, hang the bottom 75 to 90 cm (30 to 35″) above the surface. Because it is shallow, it keeps sightlines open across the room.

Suspension

With the standard 50 cm (19.7″) chain, the 65 cm version hangs about 66 cm (26″) from the ceiling, which over a dining table suits ceilings of roughly 2.2 to 2.3 m (7.2 to 7.5 ft). For higher ceilings, the chain is made longer or shorter to order.

The light

The lamps sit behind the frosted diffuser, so the light is softened before it passes through the olive glass. It gives an even, ambient glow rather than a sharp downlight. Over a kitchen island or a desk, keep task lighting alongside it.

Lamping and installation

E14 lamps. Warm white LED at 2700K. Bulbs are not included. The 65 cm version weighs about 6 to 9 kg (13 to 20 lb). The fixture is hardwired; have your electrician fix it to a joist or reinforced blocking rather than a standard ceiling box.

Care

Switch off and let the lamps cool. Dust with a soft dry cloth or a feather duster. For a deeper clean, wipe the glass with a damp microfibre cloth and a little mild glass cleaner applied to the cloth, never sprayed onto the fixture. Wipe the brass with a soft dry cloth, with no polish or abrasive products.

Made to order

Every chandelier is made to order, in 65 cm or 80 cm. The chain length can be set to your ceiling height, and dimming is available on request.
