The Gilded Crystal Drum Pendant is a drum-shaped cage of wave-formed solid brass rods, with rows of cut crystal lenses set into each opening. It comes in two sizes: Small, 43 cm (16.9″) wide, and Large, 65 cm (25.6″) wide, both 46 cm (18.1″) high. It hangs on a 40 cm (15.7″) chain and suits a dining room, an entrance hall or a bedroom.

The crystal

Each lens is cut and polished, and the rows sit inside the openings of the cage like a ring of set stones. When the lamps are on, the facets break the light into small bright points and throw warm highlights onto the brass and the ceiling.

The frame

The cage is hand-formed from solid brass rods, bent into a flowing, wavelike rhythm around the drum. The chain and canopy are solid brass to match.

Why warm light matters

Crystal carries the colour of the lamps behind it. At 2700K the facets sparkle gold against the brass; cooler light turns them icy and makes the metal look pale. On this piece, warm white is part of the design.

Sizing and placement

The Small suits a round table of about 90 to 120 cm (35 to 47″), a bedroom or a compact entrance. The Large suits a table of about 120 to 160 cm (47 to 63″), a living room or an entrance hall. Over a table, hang the bottom of the drum 75 to 90 cm (30 to 35″) above the surface.

Suspension

With the standard 40 cm (15.7″) chain, the pendant hangs about 86 cm (34″) from the ceiling. Over a dining table that suits ceilings of roughly 2.4 to 2.6 m (8 to 8.5 ft). The chain is made longer or shorter to order for other ceiling heights.

The light

The lamps sit inside the drum and the light leaves through the crystal and the gaps in the brass, so the pendant gives a sparkling ambient light rather than a direct downlight. Over a kitchen island or a desk, keep task lighting alongside it.

Lamping and installation

Warm white LED at 2700K. Bulbs are not included. The Small weighs about 9 to 12 kg (20 to 26 lb) and the Large about 15 to 20 kg (33 to 44 lb). The fixture is hardwired; have your electrician fix it to a joist or reinforced blocking.

Care

Switch off and let the lamps cool first. Dust the brass with a soft dry cloth and no polish. Wipe the crystal with a soft cloth lightly dampened with water, never spraying anything onto the fixture.

Made to order

Every piece is made to order. Chain length can be set to your ceiling height, and dimming is available on request.
