Mesh Chandelier | Red & Gold | CLFT85200

The Mesh Chandelier is a sculptural shade of fine aluminum mesh, folded into a loose, organic form and carried on an iron frame. It comes in five diameters: 40 cm (15.7″), 50 cm (19.7″), 60 cm (23.6″), 80 cm (31.5″) and 100 cm (39.4″), in red, rose gold or gold. It hangs on a 50 cm (19.7″) cable as standard and suits a dining table, a living room or a bedroom, alone or as a group of sizes.

The mesh

The shade is a sheet of aluminum mesh, folded by hand so the surface ripples and turns. The mesh is light, so even the largest size looks airy. Where the folds overlap the mesh looks denser and darker; where it is a single layer you can see through it. The red is deep and saturated, the rose gold soft and pink, the gold warm.

Why warm light matters

Coloured metal mesh reflects the light behind it. At 2700K the red glows like embers and the gold and rose gold turn soft and bright. Cooler light makes the same colours look hard and flat. On this piece, warm white is part of the design.

Sizing and placement

The 40 cm (15.7″) and 50 cm (19.7″) sizes suit a bedside, a small table or a hallway, or can be hung in a group. The 60 cm (23.6″) suits a table of about 100 to 140 cm (39 to 55″). The 80 cm (31.5″) suits a table of about 140 to 180 cm (55 to 71″) or a living room. The 100 cm (39.4″) suits a large table or an open living space. Over a table, hang the bottom 75 to 90 cm (30 to 35″) above the surface. Grouped at staggered heights, three sizes make one composition over a long table.

Suspension

Each size hangs on a 50 cm (19.7″) cable as standard, which is made longer or shorter to order for your ceiling.

The light

The lamp sits inside the folded mesh. Light passes through the single layers and is held back by the folds, so the shade glows unevenly and throws a soft, patterned light into the room. It is an ambient light. Over a kitchen counter or desk, add task lighting.

Lamping and installation

E26 or E27 LED lamps. Use warm white at 2700K. The fixture weighs about 4 kg (8.8 lb) in the 40 cm size and up to about 10 kg (22 lb) in the 100 cm size. It is hardwired; have your electrician fix the larger sizes to a joist or reinforced blocking.

Care

Switch off and let the lamp cool. Dust the mesh with a soft dry brush or a hairdryer on a cool setting. Do not press on the folds, and keep cleaners and polish off the finish.
