The Murano-Style Amber Chandelier is a cascade of hand-blown amber glass teardrops on a gold-finished iron frame, with faceted crystal beads hung between the arches. It comes in two sizes: 60 cm (23.6″) wide and 50 cm (19.7″) high with six lights, or 80 cm (31.5″) wide and 60 cm (23.6″) high with eight. It hangs on a 60 cm (23.6″) chain as standard and suits a dining table, a kitchen island or an entrance hall.

The glass

Each teardrop is blown and shaped by hand, so no two are quite the same in length, curve or depth of colour. The amber is warm and honeyed. The crystal beads sit between the arches and break the light into small points, which gives the piece a vintage, layered look.

The frame

The teardrops and beads hang from an iron frame finished in gold, which carries the arches and the lamp holders.

Why warm light matters

Amber glass takes on the temperature of the lamps behind it. At 2700K it glows gold and honey, like late-afternoon sun. Under cooler light the same glass turns brown and dull. On this piece, warm white is part of the design.

Sizing and placement

The 60 cm (23.6″) size suits a round or square table of about 100 to 140 cm (39 to 55″), or a smaller entrance hall. The 80 cm (31.5″) size suits a table of about 140 to 180 cm (55 to 71″), a larger kitchen island or a living room. Over a table, hang the bottom of the chandelier 75 to 90 cm (30 to 35″) above the surface.

Suspension

With the standard 60 cm (23.6″) chain, the smaller size hangs about 110 cm (43″) from the ceiling and the larger about 120 cm (47″). Over a dining table that suits ceilings of roughly 2.6 to 2.9 m (8.5 to 9.5 ft). For higher ceilings and stairwells the chain is made longer or shorter to order.

The light

The lamps sit inside the cascade, so the light passes through the amber and bounces between the teardrops and crystal. The result is a warm, ambient glow with small sparks from the beads. It is a mood light first. Over a kitchen island, keep task lighting alongside it.

Lamping and installation

Six E14 lamps in the 60 cm size, eight in the 80 cm size. Use warm white LED at 2700K. Bulbs are not included. The 60 cm size weighs about 12 to 16 kg (26 to 35 lb) and the 80 cm about 18 to 24 kg (40 to 53 lb). The fixture is hardwired; have your electrician fix it to a joist or reinforced blocking.

Care

Switch off and let the lamps cool first. Dust with a soft dry cloth or a feather duster, supporting each teardrop with your other hand. For a deeper clean, wipe the glass and crystal with a damp microfibre cloth, with a little mild glass cleaner applied to the cloth, never sprayed onto the fixture. Keep abrasive products off the gold finish.
