Cascading Glass Chandelier | 12-Light Brass | CLPOP014

The Cascading Glass Chandelier is a 12-light chandelier of fine glass rods falling around opal matte globes, all hung from a brass frame. It is listed in three sizes: 66 cm (26″) wide and 36 cm (14.2″) high; 80 cm (31.5″) wide and 104 cm (40.9″) high; and 100 cm (39.4″) wide and 104 cm (40.9″) high. It suits a dining room, an entrance hall or a large living room.

The glass

The glass rods hang close together and fall like a curtain of water around the globes. They catch and bend the light, so the chandelier shimmers as you move around it. Behind them sit globes of opal glass with a matte finish, which hide the lamps and turn them into soft white spheres. The glass is finished by hand, so small variations are part of each piece.

The frame

Rods and globes hang from a brass frame. Its warm colour shows between the rods and warms the glass around it.

Why warm light matters

Glass takes on the temperature of the lamps behind it. At 2700K the opal globes glow cream and the rods carry a warm, golden sparkle; cooler light makes the glass look icy and blue. On this piece, warm white is part of the design.

Sizing and placement

The 66 cm (26″) is short at 36 cm (14.2″), so it suits a table of about 120 to 150 cm (47 to 59″) or a room with a standard ceiling. The 80 cm (31.5″) and 100 cm (39.4″) are both 104 cm (40.9″) tall and need height: an entrance hall, a stairwell, a double-height living room, or a dining room with a high ceiling and a table of 160 cm (63″) and above. Over a table, hang the bottom of the chandelier 75 to 90 cm (30 to 35″) above the surface.

Suspension

The chandelier hangs from a rod, set to your ceiling height at order. For stairwells and double-height spaces the rod is made longer, and it can be made shorter for lower rooms.

The light

The globes give a soft, ambient light and the rods scatter it into gentle points of sparkle around the room. It is a chandelier for general light rather than a direct downlight. Over a kitchen island or a desk, keep task lighting alongside it.

Lamping and installation

Twelve lamps. Warm white LED at 2700K. Bulbs are not included. The 66 cm weighs about 18 kg (40 lb) and the 100 cm up to about 38 kg (84 lb). The fixture is hardwired; have your electrician fix it to a joist or reinforced blocking rather than a standard ceiling box.

Care

Switch off and let the lamps cool first. Dust the rods and globes with a feather duster or a soft dry cloth. For a deeper clean, wipe the glass with a damp microfibre cloth and a little mild glass cleaner applied to the cloth, never sprayed onto the fixture. Wipe the brass with a soft dry cloth and do not use metal polish.
