Beschreibung

The Aventino is a vertical cascade of nineteen spheres on a central spine, largest at the top and graduating down to the smallest at the bottom. The spheres are Spanish alabaster or hand-blown glass, and the frame is matte black stainless steel or solid brass. The cluster measures 113 cm (44.5″) high and 81 cm (32″) wide, and hangs from a standard 30 cm (12″) rod. It is made for double-height foyers, two-story stairwells, great rooms, hotel lobbies and dining rooms with tall ceilings.

The alabaster

In the alabaster version, every sphere is hand-carved from solid Spanish alabaster, then shaped, hollowed and finished one by one. The spheres range from about 7 cm (2.8″) to 14 cm (5.5″) across. The veining of each sphere comes from its own block, and within one Aventino the spheres are deliberately not matched: heavier veining beside softer translucency. You can ask for more veining, for less, or leave the choice to us. Lit, each sphere becomes its own small moon.

The glass

In the glass version, every sphere is hand-blown, with amber, cream and soft brown swirls drawn through the molten glass as it is blown. It has the look of alabaster, with a lighter weight and a more even translucency. The marbling in each sphere is unique; you can ask for more, for less, or leave the choice to us. Lit, the glass spheres give a warmer, more even glow than stone, closer to a lantern.

The frame

The spine comes in matte black stainless steel or solid brass. The brass is left unlacquered and darkens gently over time; the black stainless steel holds its finish. Nineteen spheres put real load on the spine, so it is built solid throughout.

Why warm light matters

Alabaster and marbled glass both glow with the colour of the lamps inside them. At 2700K the spheres turn honey, cream and amber and the veining and swirls come forward; cooler light makes them look grey and flat. On this piece, warm white is part of the design.

Sizing and placement

At 113 cm (44.5″) tall and 81 cm (32″) wide, the Aventino needs height. In a two-story stairwell, hang it so the lowest sphere ends around mid-stair height, where the full cluster is seen from both floors. In a double-height foyer, it is seen from below and from the landing above. Over a dining table, use it in rooms with ceilings of about 3.7 m (12 ft) and up, and hang the lowest sphere 75 to 90 cm (30 to 35″) above the table.

Suspension

The cluster hangs from a standard 30 cm (12″) rod above the top sphere. For double-height ceilings, stairwells and atriums, the rod is made longer to order: tell us your ceiling height when you order.

The light

Each sphere holds its own lamp, so the light comes from nineteen soft points stacked through the height of the room rather than from a single source. It is a decorative, ambient light. In a dining room, add a separate light over the table if you need a brighter surface.

Lamping and installation

Nineteen candelabra lamps, E12 or E14. Warm white LED at 2700K. Bulbs are not included. The alabaster version is heavier than the glass; both are hardwired and need structural ceiling blocking at the mounting point. Have your electrician fix it to a joist or reinforced blocking.

Care

Switch off and let the lamps cool. Dust alabaster spheres with a soft dry cloth only, never water or cleaners. Glass spheres can be wiped with a damp microfibre cloth and a little mild glass cleaner applied to the cloth. Wipe the brass or steel with a soft dry cloth, with no polish.

Made to order

Every Aventino is made to order, with the sphere material, frame finish and veining or marbling you choose. The rod length is set to your ceiling, and dimming is available on request.
