Smoked Glass Drum Chandelier | CLFB02550

The Smoked Glass Drum Chandelier is two concentric rings of upright glass rods, smoked and clear, hung on an iron frame. It comes in three diameters, 70 cm (27.6″), 90 cm (35.4″) and 110 cm (43.3″), all 30 cm (11.8″) high, and hangs on slim 100 cm (39.4″) cables. It suits a dining table, a living room, a foyer or a stairwell.

The glass

The rods are glass tubes set upright in two tiers, in smoked and clear glass. Together they grade from a warm smoked bronze to clear, and the rods break the light into fine vertical lines. The frame and canopy are iron with a polished nickel tone.

Why warm light matters

Smoked glass takes on the colour of the light passing through it. At 2700K it glows a warm bronze and the clear rods shine gold; cooler light makes the smoked glass look grey and muddy. On this piece, warm white is part of the design.

Sizing and placement

The 70 cm (27.6″) suits a table of about 120 to 160 cm (47 to 63″) or a room of about 12 to 18 m² (130 to 195 sq ft). The 90 cm (35.4″) suits a table of about 180 to 220 cm (71 to 87″) or a room of about 18 to 28 m² (195 to 300 sq ft). The 110 cm (43.3″) suits a table of about 240 to 280 cm (94 to 110″) or a large foyer. Over a table, hang the bottom 75 to 90 cm (30 to 35″) above the surface; in open areas, keep about 240 to 260 cm (7.9 to 8.5 ft) from the floor to the bottom.

Suspension

The chandelier hangs on three slim cables, 100 cm (39.4″) as standard, which keep the profile light. The cables are made longer or shorter to order, and they let the chandelier hang level under a sloped ceiling.

The light

The rods diffuse the lamps into soft vertical lines of light, so there are no hot spots and the light spreads around the room. It is an ambient light rather than a downlight. Over a table used for work, keep task lighting nearby.

Lamping and installation

Warm white LED at 2700K. The 70 cm weighs about 18 to 22 kg (40 to 49 lb), the 90 cm about 26 to 32 kg (57 to 71 lb) and the 110 cm about 36 to 45 kg (79 to 99 lb). The fixture is hardwired; have your electrician fix it to a joist or reinforced blocking.

Care

Switch off and let the lamps cool. Dust the rods with a soft dry cloth or a feather duster. For a deeper clean, wipe the glass with a damp microfibre cloth and dry it at once. Dust the frame with a dry cloth.
