The Smoked Crystal Chandelier is a ring of smoked amber K9 crystal beads, set close together on a slim brass frame and hung from fine wires. It comes in six sizes: 60 cm (23.6″) across and 12 cm (4.7″) high, 80 cm (31.5″) × 16 cm (6.3″), 100 cm (39.4″) × 18 cm (7.1″), 120 cm (47.2″) × 20 cm (7.9″), 150 cm (59.1″) × 20 cm (7.9″) and 180 cm (70.9″) × 22 cm (8.7″). It suits a foyer, a double-height entrance, a living room or a large dining room.

The crystal

The ring is packed with faceted K9 crystal beads in a smoked amber tone, so it reads as one continuous band of shimmer. The facets break the light into soft sparkle. The smoked amber gives the piece warmth and depth, and it sits well beside walnut, bronze, leather and deep-toned walls.

Why warm light matters

Tinted crystal takes on the colour of the light inside it. At 2700K the amber glows like dark honey; cooler light makes it look brown and dull. On this piece, warm white is part of the design.

Sizing and placement

The 60 cm (23.6″) and 80 cm (31.5″) suit a compact entrance or a round table of about 90 to 160 cm (35 to 63″). The 100 cm (39.4″) and 120 cm (47.2″) suit a standard foyer, a living room or a large dining table. The 150 cm (59.1″) and 180 cm (70.9″) are for grand entrances, double-height spaces and very large rooms. Over a table, hang the bottom 75 to 90 cm (30 to 35″) above the surface. The ring is shallow, so it keeps a slim profile even at the largest size.

Suspension

The ring hangs from fine wires 1.5 m (4.9 ft) long, adjustable so the height can be set on site. For double-height spaces the wires are made longer to order.

The light

The integrated LED sits inside the ring and lights the crystal from within, so the light spreads evenly all around the circle. It gives an ambient light with sparkle rather than a direct downlight. Over a dining table used for work, keep task lighting nearby.

Lamping and installation

Integrated LED at 2700K: 9 light sources in the 60 cm, 12 in the 80 cm, 16 in the 100 cm, 18 in the 120 cm, 25 in the 150 cm and 30 in the 180 cm. Approximate weights: 12 to 15 kg (26 to 33 lb) for the 60 cm, 18 to 24 kg (40 to 53 lb) for the 80 cm, 26 to 34 kg (57 to 75 lb) for the 100 cm, 35 to 45 kg (77 to 99 lb) for the 120 cm, 48 to 60 kg (106 to 132 lb) for the 150 cm and 62 to 78 kg (137 to 172 lb) for the 180 cm. The fixture is hardwired; have your electrician fix it to a joist or reinforced blocking, with structural support planned for the larger sizes.

Care

Switch off first. Dust the beads with a soft dry cloth or a feather duster. For a deeper clean, wipe them with a damp microfibre cloth and dry them at once. Dust the brass with a dry cloth, without polish.
