Sillam Linear Brass Chandelier | CLKRH085

The Sillam is a linear chandelier of artisan glass globes gathered along a solid brass bar. It measures 129 cm (50.8″) long, 53 cm (20.9″) wide and 40 cm (15.7″) high, and hangs from a 50 cm (19.7″) rod. It is made for a kitchen island, a long dining table or an open living space.

The glass

The globes are textured glass, made by hand and clustered along the bar at different points, so the composition looks loose and organic. The texture softens the light and hides the bulbs inside. The frame, rod and canopy are brass.

Why warm light matters

Glass takes on the colour of the lamps behind it. At 2700K the globes glow soft and golden against the brass; cooler light makes the glass look grey and the brass greenish. On this piece, warm white is part of the design.

Sizing and placement

At 129 cm (50.8″) long, the chandelier suits a dining table of about 190 to 240 cm (75 to 94″) or a kitchen island of about 180 to 240 cm (71 to 94″). Over a table or island, hang the bottom 75 to 90 cm (30 to 35″) above the surface. At 53 cm (20.9″) wide it has real depth, so it also holds its own over a wider table.

Suspension

With the standard 50 cm (19.7″) rod, the chandelier hangs about 90 cm (35.4″) from the ceiling. Over a dining table that suits ceilings of roughly 2.4 to 2.6 m (8 to 8.5 ft). The rod is made longer or shorter to order for higher or lower ceilings.

The light

With 31 lamps spread through the globes, the light is soft and ambient and runs evenly along the table. The textured glass takes the edge off each bulb. Over a kitchen island, keep task lighting alongside it for prep work.

Lamping and installation

Thirty-one E14 lamps. Warm white LED at 2700K. The chandelier weighs about 12 to 16 kg (26 to 35 lb). It is hardwired; have your electrician fix it to a joist or reinforced blocking.

Care

Switch off and let the lamps cool. Dust the globes with a soft dry cloth or a feather duster. For a deeper clean, wipe the glass with a damp microfibre cloth and a little mild glass cleaner applied to the cloth, never sprayed onto the fixture. Dust the brass with a soft dry cloth, without polish.
