Retro Brass Ceiling Light | CLVHGS01

The Retro Brass Ceiling Light is a layered bloom of sculpted, wave-textured white glass ovals set around a central hub on a polished brass frame. It comes in two sizes: Small, 115 cm (45.3″) across and 90 cm (35.4″) high, and Large, 130 cm (51.2″) across and 90 cm (35.4″) high. It hangs on a fabric-wrapped suspension and suits a large dining room, a living room, a foyer or a hotel lobby.

The glass

Each oval is white glass with a wave texture across its surface, so light catches the ridges even when the lamps are off. The ovals are layered in tiers around the hub, which gives the bloom its depth and softens the lamps behind them.

The frame

The frame and canopy are solid brass, polished. Left as it is, polished brass develops a warm patina over time; a clear lacquer can be applied on request to hold the finish. The suspension is wrapped in fabric, which softens the line up to the ceiling.

Why warm light matters

White glass takes on the colour of the lamps behind it. At 2700K the ovals glow a soft, warm white and the brass looks rich; cooler light turns the glass blue-white and the brass flat. On this piece, warm white is part of the design.

Sizing and placement

The Small, at 115 cm (45.3″), suits a table seating eight to ten, of about 200 to 240 cm (79 to 94″), or a large living room. The Large, at 130 cm (51.2″), suits a long table of 240 cm (94″) and above, or a double-height entrance. Over a table, hang the bottom 75 to 90 cm (30 to 35″) above the surface. In open areas, keep about 240 to 260 cm (7.9 to 8.5 ft) from the floor to the bottom of the fixture. At 90 cm (35.4″) tall it needs a generous ceiling height.

Suspension

The suspension is adjustable and is made longer or shorter to order for your ceiling height.

The light

The layered glass spreads the light evenly with no glare, so the chandelier gives a broad, ambient light for the whole room rather than a downlight. Over a table used for work, keep task lighting nearby.

Lamping and installation

G9 LED lamps, around 3 to 5 W each, warm white at 2700K. The Small weighs about 28 to 34 kg (62 to 75 lb) and the Large about 34 to 42 kg (75 to 93 lb). The fixture is hardwired; have your electrician fix it to a joist or reinforced blocking.

Care

Switch off and let the lamps cool. Dust the glass with a soft dry cloth or a feather duster. For a deeper clean, wipe the glass with a damp microfibre cloth and dry it. Dust the brass with a soft dry cloth, without polish.

Made to order

Every chandelier is made to order. The suspension length is set to your ceiling, a clear lacquer on the brass can be added, and dimming is available on request.
