Beschreibung

The De Silva is a large glass globe chandelier built as a sculptural cluster: eighteen hand-blown cherry spheres gathered around a brass frame, with slender arms radiating outward so the piece reads as full from every side of the room.

The glass

Each globe is blown by hand in cherry-tinted glass, the colour set in the melt rather than applied, with milky and translucent passages that layer the light. No two spheres are identical, and the colour moves through the day as daylight gives way to lamplight. That variation is the mark of hand-blown glass, not a defect.

Why warm light matters

Coloured glass takes on the temperature of the lamp inside it. At 2700K the cherry glows soft and rosy; cooler light turns it pale and chalky. On this piece, warm white is part of the design. With eighteen lamps, it lights a full dining or living room on its own; fit it on a dimmer to take it down for evenings.

Sizing and placement

At 90 cm (35.4") across, the De Silva suits a dining table of roughly 135 to 180 cm (53 to 71"). Hang the lowest globe 75 to 90 cm (30 to 35") above the tabletop. With an 80 cm (31.5") body height, it works under ceilings from about 2.4 m (8 ft) when it sits over a table. Over a walkway, keep at least 2.1 m (7 ft) clear beneath it, which calls for a ceiling of around 3 m (10 ft). In a double-height entrance or stairwell, specify a longer rod at order.

Lamping

Eighteen sockets, E14 or E12 to suit the destination (E12 for North America), rated to a maximum of 28W per lamp. Bulbs are not included.

Sloped and vaulted ceilings

Because every piece is made to order, the De Silva can be fitted with a sloped ceiling adapter so it hangs true under a pitched or vaulted ceiling. Mention the ceiling angle when you order.

Installation

This is a substantial fixture. Have your electrician confirm the ceiling box is rated for the weight, or add a structural fixing. Hang and wire the frame first, then fit the glass globes one by one.

Made to order

The rod length, glass colour and frame finish can all be adjusted before production. The De Silva is made in olive green and cherry glass, and frame finishes can be chosen from the Casalola metal finish chart. Trade clients can request drawings and project quantities through our trade program.
