Art Deco Brass & Glass Chandelier | CLZZZTYA

The Art Deco Brass and Glass Chandelier is a set of arched metal elements holding nested hand-blown glass domes, layered one inside the next. It comes in four widths, all 100 cm (39.4″) high: 80 cm (31.5″), 100 cm (39.4″), 120 cm (47.2″) and 140 cm (55.1″), with a solid brass frame in gold or a stainless steel frame in black. It hangs on a rod that is made longer or shorter to order, and suits a dining room, a foyer, a stairwell or a hotel lobby.

The glass

The domes are blown by hand and set one inside another, so you look through several layers of glass at once. The layers give depth and a clear, architectural outline. Because each dome is hand-blown, small variations in shape and thickness are part of every piece.

The frame

The arches that carry the glass are solid brass in the gold version and stainless steel in the black version. The gold is warm and traditional; the black is graphic and sharper against a pale ceiling.

Why warm light matters

Layered clear glass multiplies whatever light is behind it. At 2700K the domes glow warm and the brass reads gold. Under cooler light the layers look icy and the metal flat. On this piece, warm white is part of the design.

Sizing and placement

The 80 cm (31.5″) size suits a table of about 140 to 180 cm (55 to 71″) or a foyer. The 100 cm (39.4″) suits a large table or a living room. The 120 cm (47.2″) and 140 cm (55.1″) sizes suit double-height entrance halls, stairwells and lobbies. Over a table, hang the bottom 75 to 90 cm (30 to 35″) above the surface. At 100 cm (39.4″) tall, it needs a high ceiling to look right.

Suspension

It hangs on a rod that is made longer or shorter to order, so it can be set for a high dining room ceiling or dropped into the well of a stairwell.

The light

The light passes through several layers of glass, so it is soft and spreads widely. It gives a strong ambient light that suits a large room or a hall. Over a dining table in a big room, you may want lower lamps on the walls too.

Lamping and installation

Use warm white LED lamps at 2700K. It weighs about 16 kg (35 lb) in the 80 cm size and up to about 30 kg (66 lb) in the 140 cm size. The fixture is hardwired; have your electrician fix it to a joist or reinforced blocking.

Care

Switch off and let the lamps cool. Dust the glass with a soft dry cloth or a feather duster. For a deeper clean, wipe the domes with a damp microfibre cloth and a little mild glass cleaner applied to the cloth, never sprayed onto the fixture. Dust the frame with a soft dry cloth and do not use polish.

Every piece is made to order. The rod length is set to your ceiling height, and dimming is available on request.
