The Vintage Flower Glass Flush Mount is a low ceiling light with a textured glass shade shaped like an opening flower, centred on a small brass accent. It comes in three sizes: 30 cm (11.8″) wide and 10 cm (3.9″) high, 40 cm (15.7″) wide and 12 cm (4.7″) high, and 50 cm (19.7″) wide and 13 cm (5.1″) high. It suits a bedroom, living room, entryway or powder room, and any room with a low ceiling.

The glass

The shade is textured glass shaped like a blooming flower. The texture breaks up the light and hides the lamp, so the shade reads as a soft, glowing bloom. The texture varies a little from one piece to the next. The brass at the centre adds a warm point of metal.

Why warm light matters

Textured glass takes on the colour of the light behind it and shows every ripple of its surface. At 2700K the petals glow a warm ivory and the texture looks soft and deep; cooler light makes the glass look grey and the pattern flat. On this piece, warm white is part of the design.

Sizing and placement

The 30 cm (11.8″) suits a powder room, hallway, landing or closet. The 40 cm (15.7″) suits a bedroom, study or entryway of about 3 × 3.5 m (10 × 11.5 ft). The 50 cm (19.7″) suits a larger bedroom or a living room of about 4 × 4.5 m (13 × 15 ft). With a profile of 10 to 13 cm (3.9 to 5.1″), all three sizes work on ceilings from about 2.3 m (7.5 ft).

Mounting

The shade fixes flush to the ceiling, so the whole flower is seen from below without a drop.

The light

The light passes through the textured glass and spreads softly around the room. It is an ambient light rather than a downlight; in a kitchen or at a desk, add task lighting alongside it.

Lamping and installation

Warm white LED at 2700K. The 30 cm weighs about 2 kg (4.4 lb) and the 50 cm about 3.5 kg (7.7 lb). The fixture is hardwired; have it installed by an electrician.

Care

Switch off and let the lamps cool. Dust the glass with a soft dry cloth. For a deeper clean, wipe it with a damp microfibre cloth and a little mild glass cleaner applied to the cloth, never sprayed onto the fixture. Wipe the brass with a soft dry cloth only, with no metal polish.
