The Specchio Antiquato is a flush mount built from staggered panels of antiqued mirrored glass in an antique brass frame. It is 50.8 cm (20″) across and 30.5 cm (12″) high, and it sits close to the ceiling. It suits a bedroom, a dressing room, a hallway or a dining room with a standard ceiling.

The glass

The mirrored panels are antiqued by hand, so the clouding and the depth of the silvering differ across one fixture and from one piece to the next. The panels are staggered, which breaks up the reflections. They reflect daylight as well as lamplight, so the piece has presence even when it is switched off.

The frame

The panels are held in a solid brass frame with an antique finish. The brass is darker and softer than polished brass, and it sits well with the aged look of the mirror.

Why warm light matters

Antiqued mirror reflects the colour of the light around it. At 2700K the silvering turns warm and smoky, and the brass reads gold. Under cooler light the mirror looks gray and the brass flat. On this piece, warm white is part of the design.

Sizing and placement

At 50.8 cm (20″) across, it suits a bedroom or dining room of about 3 × 3 m to 4 × 4 m (10 × 10 ft to 13 × 13 ft), or a wide hallway. It carries the presence of a chandelier in a room whose ceiling will not take one.

Mounting

It is fixed directly to the ceiling and drops 30.5 cm (12″), which suits ceilings of about 2.4 to 2.7 m (8 to 9 ft).

The light

The lamps sit inside the drum of mirrored panels. Light spills out between the staggered panels and is reflected around the room, so it gives a soft ambient light with a gentle shimmer on the ceiling.

Lamping and installation

Warm white at 2700K, which suits the brass and the antiqued glass. The fixture is hardwired flush to the ceiling.

Care

Switch off and let the lamps cool. Dust the panels and frame with a soft dry cloth. For marks on the mirror, use a microfibre cloth lightly dampened with water. Do not use polish on the brass.

Every piece is made to order. The finish and the panel arrangement can be specified before production, and dimming is available on request.
