Parefeuille Petite | Backlit Terracotta | CLHJPAR02

The Parefeuille Petite throws a halo behind a slab of hand-fired blonde terracotta, so the wall lights up rather than the room. There is no exposed bulb and no glare: off, it reads as a piece of fired clay hung as art; on, the wall behind it warms.

The terracotta

Each slab is fired by hand, so colour, surface and the way the edges catch the light vary from piece to piece. The brass is left antique so it darkens with the clay rather than against it.

Where it belongs

A pair above a powder-room mirror, where backlight flatters rather than flattens. Along a corridor at intervals, where the terracotta is art by day and atmosphere at night. Beside a bed, where it gives light without lighting the person next to you.

Installation
