Modern Minimalist Brass Flush Mount | CLMMC

The Modern Minimalist Brass Flush Mount is a slim, round ceiling light: a thin brass frame around a frosted acrylic diffuser, only 4 cm (1.6″) deep. It comes in three diameters: 30 cm (11.8″), 40 cm (15.7″) and 50 cm (19.7″). It sits almost level with the ceiling, so it suits a bedroom, hallway or living room where headroom is short.

The brass

The frame is polished brass, kept to a narrow rim around the diffuser. The diffuser is frosted acrylic, which hides the light source and gives the fixture an even, milky face when it is lit. The plain circle is the whole design, and it sits quietly in a modern or a period room.

Why warm light matters

A frosted diffuser shows the colour of the light behind it across its whole face. At 2700K it glows a soft, creamy white that is easy on the eyes in a bedroom at night; cooler light turns it bluish and flat, like an office panel. On this piece, warm white is part of the design.

Sizing and placement

The 30 cm (11.8″) suits a hallway, landing, closet or small bedroom. The 40 cm (15.7″) suits a bedroom or study of about 3 × 3.5 m (10 × 11.5 ft). The 50 cm (19.7″) suits a larger bedroom or a living room of about 4 × 4.5 m (13 × 15 ft). At 4 cm (1.6″) deep it works on ceilings from about 2.3 m (7.5 ft), including the low ceilings of older houses and apartments. Down a long hallway, use two or three of the smaller size, evenly spaced.

Mounting

The fixture fixes flat to the ceiling, with nothing hanging below its 4 cm (1.6″) profile.

The light

The LED sits behind the frosted diffuser, so the light comes out soft and even across the whole face, without glare. It is an ambient light for the whole room. In a kitchen or over a desk, add task lighting alongside it.

Lamping and installation

Integrated LED, warm white 2700K. The 30 cm weighs about 1.5 kg (3.3 lb) and the 50 cm about 2.5 kg (5.5 lb). The fixture is hardwired; have it installed by an electrician.

Care

Switch off first. Dust the diffuser and frame with a soft dry cloth. Do not use metal polish or abrasive cleaners on the brass.
