Brass & Glass Flower Semi-Flush Mount | CLFLW025

The Brass & Glass Flower Semi-Flush Mount is a small ceiling light with a flower-shaped glass shade on a solid brass stem and base. It measures 30 cm (11.8″) across and 25 cm (9.8″) high. It suits a bedroom, a hallway or a dining nook.

The glass

The shade is glass formed by hand into the shape of an open flower, so its curves and edges vary slightly from piece to piece. It diffuses the lamp inside to a soft, even glow.

The frame

The stem and ceiling base are solid brass, kept short so the flower sits close to the ceiling.

Why warm light matters

Glass takes on the colour of the lamp behind it. At 2700K the petals glow soft and warm against the brass; cooler light makes the glass look cold and the metal pale. On this piece, warm white is part of the design.

Sizing and placement

At 30 cm (11.8″) across, it suits a bedroom, hallway, landing or dining nook of up to about 3 × 3 m (10 × 10 ft). Along a corridor, space two or more about 2 to 2.5 m (6.5 to 8 ft) apart. At 25 cm (9.8″) deep, it works under ceilings from about 2.3 m (7.5 ft).

Mounting

The brass base fixes directly to the ceiling, and the whole fixture sits within 25 cm (9.8″) of it.

The light

The light passes through the glass petals and spreads softly into the room. It is a gentle ambient light; over a desk or dressing table, add a task lamp.

Lamping and installation

E14 or E27 lamp. Warm white LED at 2700K. Bulbs are not included. The fixture weighs about 2 kg (4.4 lb) and is hardwired.

Care

Switch off and let the lamps cool first. Dust with a soft dry cloth, supporting the shade with your other hand. For a deeper clean, wipe the glass with a damp microfibre cloth and a little mild glass cleaner applied to the cloth, never sprayed onto the fixture. Wipe the brass with a soft dry cloth only, with no metal polish or abrasive cleaners.
